Underwear This Christmas

My daughter Olivia will be two in less than a month. I can’t believe it has been two years since she arrived, of course, she did need a little coaxing out, by having my membranes ruptured and a drip of pitocin, even then she had her own agenda and her own ATTITUDE. Of course right now her highest priority is to un-decorate anything she can which is why we have waited until the last possible moment to put up our Christmas tree.

Around our home, Olivia always provides quite a show. Yesterday I found her standing in front of her daddy’s underwear drawer with a huge cluster of crumpled briefs around her neck. She was so pleased of her accomplishment that she proceeded to dance around the house with them around her neck and I was pleased that she picked his drawer.

Everything is magical and mysterious to Olivia, everything is whimsical and full of wonder. The words, “NO, Mine, I get out of here, and even Dipy Dipy Dips (for Mexi Dip and Chips) make up a part of her ever expanding vocabulary. She always says what she means and means what she says! Every now and then she gets an overwhelming emotional surge and will run to me, throw her arms around my neck and say, “I wuv you mommy”.

It is hard to imagine too many things in life that are much better than a half decorated living room, a pile of men’s BVD’s around the neck of an adorable two year old while she is dancing around the house. I know I could write about the hustle and bustle of the holiday season or keeping Jesus the center of the season but you know all of that. I just want to remind you to enjoy the simple things in life. Remember to mean what you say and say what you mean. When you feel the urge, run up to that special someone with a gigantic hug and tell them you love them. Enjoy every little minute of your life, even in your underwear dancing around the house. And most importantly, keep your desires high for it is from the true desires of your heart that the substance of life flows.

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4
