Hurry Up and Wait

                                                                        by Laura Kuester

Recently, I had the privilege of attending a women’s retreat in Colorado Springs. (Check out www.ransomedheart.com) It was a trip that I was supposed to have taken with two close friends that ended up being a solo trip of my own, I am sure by God’s design. I was able to fly on a friend’s standby pass, which was definitely a blessing. I got on my flight from Tulsa to Dallas with no problems except that there was a major storm that the pilot chose to fly right through that didn’t settle well with me. Imagine a pop bottle that has been shaken and shaken and shaken…. Yes, I was shaken too much and the dreadful did happen. I will say I broke all the rules, unfastened my seat belt during the landing, and bolted, and I mean bolted, for the bathroom. Thank goodness I made it, but the stewardess was not too happy with me.

I then had a short amount of time to get from Terminal A to Terminal C in DFW. Those of you who have been there know what I mean. I was happy to have my feet on the ground though. When I finally arrived at the counter the kind woman told me that I would not be able to get on this flight. I had been “BUMPED” and I would have to wait. Well, that meant I had a couple of hours to get cleaned up, find some 7- up and wait!!!!  My immediate thought was, “I just want to get there, I don’t want to sit around this airport by myself. I have things I could be doing.” Then I began to think about the virtue of waiting.

On our life journey, waiting seems to be a necessary part of the process. We wait to turn sixteen to drive a car, we wait for the man of our dreams, we wait nine, really ten months to see that beautiful baby’s face, and on and on. Scripture tells us those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. It seems to me when we wait with a proper perspective, we recognize that God is the divine “Day Timer”, the supernatural schedule maker, the ultimate “Calendar Creator”. With this perspective, delays do not have to result in fatigue or weariness; instead, our strength can be renewed. Waiting can be a place of revitalization so that you will be able to run and not grow weary. No doubt, your life will be full of delays, detours, and disappointments, but take advantage of divine delays in your life and let God be in control.

By the way, I was thankful that I had officially been “BUMPED” because I was able to wait for my stomach to calm down and spend some time praying and writing in my journal. It was a blessing in disguise. I am glad I was forced to WAIT.

                                                                                                      Blessings,
