Expriencing Loss

Category: General. Posted by ljk at 11: 00 pm.

Whether it is a loss of a job, friends, home, status, a loved one or a pet, all of us experience loss in one way or another, to one degree or another. Loss can make us bitter or better. Unfortunately, no one likes to talk about it very much. We seem to have an unspoken agreement with others not to talk about our losses. At times, we are not even aware of some of our losses because the effect of the loss is very minor. Other losses, however are felt very deeply and effect us for a lifetime. How we respond to a loss and how we allow those losses to affect us can make a difference for the rest of our lives.

Psalm 23 tells of God comforting those who walk through the “valley of the shadow of death.” During the darkest hours of mourning, God never abandons His people. Isaiah 53 describes the suffering of our Savior. He experienced loss and grief so that He could understand our humanity and die in our place. He was despised and rejected, “a Man of sorrows and aquainted with grief”… He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah. 53:3,5)

In our times of sorrow, we can let Jesus hold us in His compassionate arms, knowing that He understands!

Isaiah 61:3 “To provide for those who grieve in Zion- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garmet of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”

  1. I cannot forgive Descartes; in all his philosophy he did his best to dispense with God. But he could not avoid making Him set the world in motion with a flip of His thumb; after that he had no more use for God. by casino online

  2. A man’s ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death. by free online poker

  3. I have an extreme dislike for vague, confused, and oracular writing; and I have very little patience with authors who express themselves in this style. I believe that what can be said at all can be said simply and clearly in any civilized language or in a suitable system of symbols, and that verbal obscurity is almost always a sign of mental confusion. by texas holdem

  5. If we think that this search for God is a vain search, and that there is no reality to be discovered, … then the history of religion becomes a study of the aberrations of the human mind. by free poker online

  6. We have a habit in writing articles published in scientific journals to make the work as finished as possible, to cover up all the tracks, to not worry about the blind alleys or describe how you had the wrong idea first, and so on. So there isn’t any place to publish, in a dignified manner, what you actually did in order to get to do the work. by online casino games

  8. I think that the Bible as literature should be a compulsory part of the national curriculum – you can’t understand English literature and culture without it. But insofar as theology studies the nature of the divine, it will earn the right to be taken seriously when it provides the slightest, smallest smidgen of a reason for believing in the existence of the divine. Meanwhile, we should devote as much time to studying serious theology as we devote to studying serious fairies and serious unicorns. by paradise poker

  9. I have no reason for believing the existence of matter. I have no immediate intuition thereof: neither can I immediately, from any sensations, ideas, notions, actions or passions infer an unthinking, unperceiving, inactive substance - either by probable deduction or necessary consequence. by poker rooms

  13. Our main conclusions about the state are that a minimal state, limited to the narrow functions of protection against force, theft, fraud, enforcement of contracts, and so on, is justified; that any more extensive state will violate persons’ rights not to be forced to do certain things, and is unjustified; and that the minimal state is inspiring as well as right. by texas holdem poker
