South Africa Missions
In four days my dad will be leaving on his second trip to South Africa in the last year.
He went last February with Marvin Phillips, Mitch Wilburn (the preacher at Park Plaza church of Christ) and his friend Don Noles. This time he is going by himself but definitely not without a mission. You see, back in May my dad received a call from a teacher at Wright Elementary in Tulsa to see if he would like to have some slightly used school supplies and textbooks, etc. My dad said yes and went and picked up two truckloads worth of school supplies. The whole time he knew he was to somehow get it to South Africa. In the meantime, Kent Bresee, who is Marvin Phillips grandson, who is currently over in South Africa doing mission work, began working some in a shelter for women and children who have been abused. This is a shelter that is currently being housed in an abandoned school with no electricity or water. Needless to say, they have very little of anything especially school supplies for the children. Here is where the school supplies back in little ol’ Tulsa, Oklahoma come into the picture. My dad quickly got the supplies boxed up and went and purchased some other itens that these children and moms would need and took it to have it crated up and shipped to South Africa. It is set to arrive Sept. 8th and my dad should also be arriving around the same day. He will be there to receive the shipment and to take it to the shelter and hand it out etc. It will be an amazing thing for him to be a part of. All of this could not have happened in any more perfect timing. God’s timing that it. God knew exactly where he wanted that stuff to go, and exactly who he wanted to use to get it there. I am so proud of my dad but he would not take credit for any of this which is exactly why I am proud of him. He serves and loves humbly and quietly. Please keep him in your prayers over the next couple of weeks. I am sure I will have some great stories to pass on to you when he gets back.
