Quote of the Day…
Charlie Brown kicks a football while saying, “My grampa and gramma have been married for 50 years…” To which his playmate replies “They’re lucky, aren’t they?” Charlie says, “Grampa says it isn’t luck, it’s skill.”

Compromise and Confusion in the Churches
Friday, July 01, 2005
The church today finds itself assaulted without–and even within–by a culture and worldview of untruth, anti-truth, and postmodern irrationality. In fact, researchers increasingly report that a majority of evangelicals themselves reject the notion of absolute or objective truth. The seductive lure of postmodern relativism has pervaded many evangelical pulpits and countless evangelical pews, often couched as humility, sensitivity, or sophistication. The culture has us in its grip, and many feel no discomfort.
The absence of doctrinal precision and biblical preaching marks the current evangelical age. Doctrine is considered outdated by some and divisive by others. The confessional heritage of the church is neglected and, in some cases, seems even to be an embarrassment to updated evangelicals. Expository preaching–once the hallmark and distinction of the evangelical pulpit–has been replaced in many churches by motivational messages, therapeutic massaging of the self, and formulas for health, prosperity, personal integration, and celestial harmony.
Almost a century ago, J.C. Ryle, the great evangelical bishop, warned of such diversions from truth: “I am afraid of an inward disease which appears to be growing and spreading in all the Churches of Christ throughout the world. That disease is a disposition on the part of ministers to abstain from all sharply-cut doctrine, and a distaste on the part of professing Christians for all distinct statements of dogmatic truth.”
The Thinklings is a blog that I enjoy following. They have a great survey post up right now that asks the question, “Why do you not go to church anymore?” It is interesting. Be sure to read all of the comments.

One of the things that sets us apart from all other life forms is our ability to communicate with words. Generally, the more adept one is at controlling one’s feelings, expressing one’s thoughts in a constructive manner, and building word pictures of hope…the more successful and receptive he will be.
Jesus spoke with love and kindness to the masses. He was honest with sinners, compassionate with the sick, and a rescuer to the possessed. It was only the religious hypocrite, “the blind leading the blind,” that He confronted with harshness and condemnation.
I’ve discovered that there are four people who will shut down any hope of communications:
1. Screamers - those who in their insecurity, anger, doubt or confusion will raise their voices in a threatening manner.
2. Streamers - those who manipulate with the tears of their trade.
3. Steamers - those who fume and fuss, and threaten if certain actions are not performed.
4. Schemers - those who manipulate through emotional blackmail, bargain-basement bribes, and false hopes.
“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one” (Col. 4:6). “A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver” (Prov. 25:11). “The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool shall swallow him up” (Eccl. 10:12).
May God give us wisdom to salt our words with truth, sweeten them with hope, and provide a banquet of blessings, for we never know when we will have them served back to us on a…tray of humility.
“It is finally time for a new album and a new tour. We are extremely excited and we cannot wait to get started! We have included a sample of our new title song from the new album. “Lifesong” speaks of how the worship in our life should be more than just the songs we sing … Worship should be in the life we live! ”
This website says that an addiction to pornography is not really about sex, but about a hungry heart that craves intimacy. Women as well as men experience this type of addiction as a powerful, emotional stronghold that needs to be addressed from several angles.
For Christians struggling with pornography, reviving your prayer life allows God to work in that situation and encourages you to make wholesome decisions. For others, help is inevitable from a Christian counselor. Support groups where you can interact with others struggling with the same issues can be priceless. The road to recovery is not easy and it is not often quick but with God’s help, wise counsel and close friends, you can break through the addiction that binds you and live a life of true intimacy with God.
