Francine Rivers is probably one of my favorite Christian fiction authors. Her Lineage of Grace series was one of the first works of hers that I ever read. It added a lot of thought and information to my knowledge of some very historical biblical happenings. Last night, I finished reading, “And the Shofar Blew”. It was amazing. Probably one of the best books I have read in a long time. In fact, I told my husband he should read it but he said he wasn’t interested in reading some “girly” book. I had to set him straight nonetheless. In this book, I found myself associating with several of the characters. I wish I could process it all here but there is so much still floating around in my mind that I don’t think it is possible.
We are having a great summer so far! The kids actually got into the swimming pool today, for about 20 minutes and that is all they could stand. The water is still pretty cold. I didn’t dare even put my toes in. I know I am a wimp! My son is still having his t-ball practices. They will start the city wide tournament next week. Should be fun.
I think my blogging will be pretty sporatic this summer. I am trying to cut the fat out and I have realized that if I am not careful the computer can be an idol for me. So, I am trying to keep things in much better balance. I am also going to stop reading some blogs. I used to try to keep up with the post modern/ emerging church conversations that are going on around the world but one thing I have realized with this kind of talk is that is about all there is. A bunch of talk. Little action. It seems the more blogs I read on this topic the more it seems like these people are propping themselves up with a lot of “talk” in almost an elitist way. Like they have figured something new out and are wanting everyone else to know it. Most of it doesn’t really seem new to me anyway but lots of people want to talk theology, philosophy, etc. etc. and I just am tired of trying to understand it. That is probably the problem, I don’t want to understand, I just want to follow Jesus with all of my heart and love my neighbors and God! I want to do something and not sit around and try to talk it up with these “post-modern guys” or even spend time trying to figure out what the heck they are talking about. Anyway, it is a waste of time for me. I am not saying that it is for everyone but it is for me. So, I have dedicated my time this summer to reading my bible, prayer and meditation, praying for and helping those in need, and of course enjoying every waking moment with my children and husband.
One more thing, I read in the newspaper today that the Tulsa Zoo is hosting a Gay Day and Tulsa Mayor Lafortune has given his tacit approval. I am so disappointed. I wish people and organizations wouldn’t feel like they have to make “exceptions for the minority”. Why is it necessary to have a Gay Day? Are they going to have a heterosexual day. (Big Sigh!!)
Hope you have a great day today!
Gone for the weekend….
Come back soon and check it out! My blog will be undergoing a makeover!
Thanks David for my new makeover! Don’t you guys like it? Mshell has new digs too.
I am taking it up again after about ten years. I am looking forward to spending an hour a week for me doing something that I love to do.
